As temperatures starts dropping after fiery summers, the nature starts changing its colors of the leaves change into vibrant shades of orange, red, yellow, and brown.

In Japan, this natural phenomenon is called koyo (紅葉) or momiji (meaning red leaves) and observing the most striking shades of leaf is known as Momijigari (red leaf hunting) has been extremely popular in Japan and is now the major attraction for tourist, travel photographer, landscape photographer and artist.

Maple-shaped cakes are typical during the fall season, and the leaves themselves are often eaten as tempura: a delicious, deep-fried, sweet snack.

There are various varieties of maple leaf tempura served throughout the country during the season, often accompanied by a cup of Japanese tea.

Akame waterfall

Akame Shijuhachi Waterfalls is known for the training ground of Iga Ninja’s.

With the trail of 4-kilometer-long Akame Keikoku Valley we can see beautiful landscapes of various waterfalls in many sizes including Fudotaki Waterfalls, Senjudaki Waterfalls, and Biwadaki Waterfalls. Gorgeous panoramic view of the valley and the red-tinged mountain range in autumn can be seen during the hiking course to Mount Nagasaka.

Meoto Iwa

Located in the Ise City, these Meoto Iwa (夫婦岩, the Wedded Rocks) are two sacred rocks in the ocean near Futami.

The larger of the two rocks represents the husband and the smaller one represents the wife.

Both rocks are tied by a shimenawa rope which is symbolic representation of the division between the spiritual and earthly realms. In a ceremony, the shimenawa rope is replaced three times a year.

Ago Bay

Ago Bay (英虞湾, Agowan) is a scenic, island dotted bay with a rugged coastline, located at the southern tip of the Shima Peninsula.

The bay is famous for pearl cultivation with many oyster rafts floating in the water.

The art of pearl cultivation was first mastered by Mikimoto Kokichi in 1893. Mikimoto was born and grew up on the Shima Peninsula, not far from Ago Bay.

Sobue Cho

Sobuecho is the name of a town in Inazawa city located in the west of Aichi.

The Yamazaki area is also known for the beautiful yellow leaves of the gingko trees. The Sobue Ichou Matsuri is held at the end of every November.

The Kiso river flows from the west and the town is rich with nature.

The town also has three large parks: Kiso Sansen National Government Park, Kisogawa Sobue Ryokuchi Greens Park and Sobue Wild Nature Ryokuchi Greens Park. Near Kisogawa Sobue Ryokuchi Greens Park, there is a riverside dune called Sobue Sakyuu.

The pine trees planted in the dunes create a beautiful landscape known as as Sabo forests. In recent years, Makai beach has become a base for windsurfing, with many young people flocking to it.

Korankei Gorge

Located in the corner of the Aichi Kogen National Park is a valley created by the Yahagi River Rio Tributary. When you think about famous spots to check out the leaves in the fall, Kourankei is first in everyone’s mind. You’ll find 4,000 trees consisting of 11 different types of Japanese maples that paint the landscape in gorgeous yellow and crimson.

The best time to visit Kourankei is November. The mountainside is lit until 9 PM each night, but even in the afternoon, it’s a gorgeous place to be, and you can get a lovely view of Kourankei’s symbol—the Taigetsukyou [Samurai Moon Bridge].

Hakone

Hakone (箱根) is part of the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park, less than one hundred kilometers from Tokyo. Famous for hot springs, natural beauty and the view across Lake Ashinoko of nearby Mount Fuji, Hakone is one of the most popular destinations among Japanese and international tourists looking for a break from Tokyo.

Owakudani

Owakudani (大涌谷, Ōwakudani) is the area around a crater created during the last eruption of Mount Hakone some 3000 years ago. Today, much of the area is an active volcanic zone where sulfurous fumes, hot springs and hot rivers can be experienced.

Additionally, Owakudani has good views of Mount Fuji on clear days. Eggs cooked in Owakudani’s hot spring pools with their shells blackened by the sulfur are on sale at shops in the area, and eating one is said to prolong one’s life by seven years.

A short walking trail leads from the ropeway station into the volcanic zone to a number of steam vents and bubbling pools. The walk takes around 30 minutes in total. Admission to the trail requires advance reservations and costs 500 yen.

Lake Ashinoko

Lake Ashinoko (芦ノ湖, Ashinoko) was formed in the caldera of Mount Hakone after the volcano’s last eruption 3000 years ago.

Today, the lake with Mount Fuji in the background is the symbol of Hakone. The lake’s shores are mostly undeveloped except for small towns in the east and north and a couple of lakeside resort hotels.

The best views of the lake in combination with Mount Fuji can be enjoyed from Moto-Hakone (a few steps south from the sightseeing boat pier), from the Hakone Detached Palace Garden and from the sightseeing boats cruising the lake.

Hakone Shrine:

Hakone Shrine (箱根神社, Hakone Jinja) stands at the foot of Mount Hakone along the shores of Lake Ashinoko. The shrine buildings are hidden in the dense forest, but are well advertised by its huge torii gates, one standing prominently in the lake and two others over the main street of Moto-Hakone.

A path leads from the torii gate in Lake Ashinoko up a series of steps flanked by lanterns through the forest to the main building of the shrine, which sits peacefully among the tall trees. The shrine is beautiful throughout the year and is particularly breathtaking when shrouded in mist.

A second shrine, Mototsumiya (“original shrine”) stands at the summit of Komagatake, one of Mount Hakone’s multiple peaks. It is accessible by the Hakone Komagatake Ropeway from Hakone-en or via hiking trails

Tokyo

Tokyo is Japan’s capital and the world’s most populated metro cities. Tokyo was known as Edo before1868. It was a small castle town, and Edo became Japan’s political center in 1603 during the establishment of feudal government by Tokugawa Ieyas. After few decades, Edo became one of the world’s largest cities. After the Meiji Restoration of 1868, the emperor and capital moved from Kyoto to Edo, which Edo was renamed as Tokyo. Literal meaning of Tokyo means “Eastern Capital”. Tokyo was destroyed twice i.e.  in1923 during Great Kanto Earthquake & in 1945 during air raids of second world war.

As on date, Tokyo offers a unlimited choice of shopping, entertainment, culture, and dining to its tourist. The city has historical places such as Asakusa and in many museums, shrines, temples, and gardens.
